Foxborough is a small town situated in Norfolk County in the US State of Massachusetts. The town is located approximately 35km southwest of Boston, 29km northeast of Providence, Rhode Island, and 117km northwest of Cape Cod. Foxborough forms a portion of the Greater Boston Metropolitan Area and is well-known as the home of the famous Gillette Stadium.

Brief History Of Foxborough

Foxborough, founded in 1704 and incorporated in 1778, was named after Charles James Fox, a Whig parliament member and fervent defender of the Colonies in the years leading up to the American Revolution. The world's largest straw hat factory was initially located in the town. In the early twentieth century, the Union Straw Works, established by local merchant E.P. Carpenter, was destroyed by fire. Until the early 1900s, Foxborough was made up of local neighborhood villages. Foxvale/Paineburgh, which was semi-independent until the mid-nineteenth century, Quaker Hill in South Foxborough, and Lakeview/Donkeyville in West Foxborough were among them.
